CIES transfer profit list in the past 5 years: French Eagle tops Seagulls, Stuttgart and Atalanta are on the list

"Team" quoted the latest report from the Center for International Sports Studies (CIES), which ranked European teams based on their profitability in the transfer market over the past five seasons. Frankfurt undoubtedly tops the list, while Lens (6th) is the highest-ranked French club here.

Frankfurt has long been known for making profits in the transfer market by buying low and selling high. In a list published on its official website on Tuesday, the International Sports Research Center ranked the club currently ranked No. 6 in the Bundesliga as the "King of Transactions" in world football since 2021. In fact, during this period, the club had revenue of 364 million euros and expenses of only 78 million euros. With a profit of 286 million euros, it was clearly ahead of second-ranked Brighton (profit + 221 million euros).

The recent operations of Randall Kolo Muani and Omar Marmouche - both of whom joined as a free agent and were later sold at high prices (to Paris Saint-Germain for 90 million euros and to Manchester City for 75 million euros respectively) - continue this tradition. The same is true for Hugo Ekitic, who was purchased for €31.5 million a year ago and later moved to Liverpool for €90 million.

The highest-ranked French club is Lens (6th overall), with a profit of 134 million euros. The recent transfer transactions of Abdukodir Husanov (purchase price of 450,000 euros, sold to Manchester City for more than 40 million euros + bonus) and Nir Elnawi (purchase price of 600,000 euros, sold to Roma for 23.5 million euros) have brought considerable capital gains to the club.

"Team" pointed out that the study also revealed clubs that performed poorly in this area. Not surprisingly, Riyadh Crescent is the team with the most "losses" (expenses of 206 million euros and income of only 9 million euros). While the bottom of the list is rightly occupied by profligate Saudi and English clubs who have other sources of income (e.g. Manchester United, profit - €74 million), Marseille is also one of the clubs with negative profits (-€31 million; expenses of €295 million, income of €264 million).

Marseille is one of three French clubs in this situation. Rennes (-€6 million; €284 million in expenses, €278 million in revenue) and Nantes (-€4 million; €22 million in expenses, €18 million in revenue) suffered relatively smaller losses but failed to turn a profit on transfers - however, These two clubs have been outstanding in selling their own youth players (such as Eduardo Camavinga, Tisre Douai or Matisse Tere to Rennes; Natan Zeize or Quentin Melan to Nantes), but this study does not take into account the sales of youth players.

The top ten transfer profits in the past five years:

1-Frankfurt (Germany): +286 million euros (expenditure 78 million euros, income 364 million euros)
