Atletico Madrid's new director of football Mateu Alemany is evaluating the decisions the team needs to make going forward to improve on a poor start to the season.

Alemany also mentioned that analysis will be conducted in October and opportunities to improve the lineup will be sought in the next transfer window. At present, there are several positions that need to be strengthened. The first is the left back. Since Hanzko was placed in this position and the performance of Ruggieri and Garland did not fully convince the coaching staff, adjustments may be needed. The other is the double midfielder position. No new players were introduced this summer to fill the vacancy after Rodrigo DePaul left the team, resulting in the team's shortage of personnel in this position. Gallagher has not performed at his best in the position, while Cardoso's injury has forced Koke to play alongside Barrios for longer than expected.

In addition, there are also problems with the central defender position. Due to Jimenez's absence and Hanzko's position adjustment, Lenglet had to take on more playing time, but his performance was not stable.

As for the forward, although there are players such as Serlot, Griezmann and Raspadori, no one has yet firmly occupied the starting position, so the club may also consider introducing a forward.

It is worth noting that Atletico Madrid currently has 24 registration quotas. If it wants to sign new players in the winter transfer window, it must first let go of some players. Molina, Gallagher, Sirlot, Garland or Lenglet may be the most likely candidates to leave the team. However, the final decision will depend on the outcome of negotiations between Alemany and Simeone.
