According to the "Times" report, the streaming media giant Netflix is ​​preparing to bid for some global broadcast rights of the Champions League starting from the 2027-28 season, which signals that the European football broadcast market may usher in major changes.

It is reported that Netflix aims to obtain the exclusive global broadcast rights for one game in each round, and UEFA has also contacted the platform to test its interest.

This reform of the copyright sales model is jointly promoted by UEFA and the European Football Club (EFC), aiming to attract the participation of global streaming media platforms such as Amazon and Apple. Sources revealed that UEFA hopes to use the new sales strategy to increase the annual revenue of its club competitions by at least 10% from the current 4.4 billion euros to 5 billion euros or even higher.

Although Netflix has not been involved in live sports broadcasts on a large scale, its broadcast of the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match hit a peak of 65 million streaming media views, showing its huge market potential.

The new sales plan is handled by Relevent, an American sports marketing agency. In addition to packaging a global copyright for the streaming media platform, the remaining competitions will allow broadcasters to bid for the copyrights in the five major European markets (UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France) at one time. At the same time, the length of the copyright contract may also be extended from the traditional three years to three to six years. Relevent has previously signed a six-year broadcast contract worth US$1.5 billion for UEFA in the US market.
