Hamann: Kovac gives Dortmund no more excuses and his professional attitude is better than when he played in the Champions League final the year before

In his column for Sky Sports Germany, German star Hamann praised the changes coach Kovac brought to Dortmund and said that the team's professional attitude is better now than when it reached the Champions League finals two years ago.

When Dortmund decided to choose Kovac as the new head coach in early February this year, there was considerable doubt from the outside world. However, after 36 games, these doubts are gone: Kovac first led Dortmund to a strong sprint to qualify for the Champions League at the end of last season, and ushered in a very good start in the 25/26 season.

Even Hamann, who is often critical, also praised Kovac for this: "What Kovac extracted from Dortmund is incredible. He took away the team's excuses. He made demands and encouraged the players, and he had certain standards for the players."

"If someone does not keep up, another player will replace him. The professionalism and seriousness shown by Dortmund Sex, which they didn't even have two years ago when they could have won the league title and entered the Champions League final."

Regarding the team's 4-2 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League this week, Hamann said: "Dortmund's performance was not dazzling, but you have to win there first, and you have to score four goals."

Currently, after 7 league rounds, Dortmund is ranked fourth with a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. This weekend, the Yellow and Black Legion will also face Cologne at home.
