Chivu: We conceded a goal because of our opponent’s only counterattack opportunity, and Diouf performed well playing on the wing

In the 12th round of Serie A this morning, Inter Milan lost 0-1 at home to their Derby rival Milan. Inter Milan coach Chivu attended the post-match press conference.

What is your explanation for the defeat in this derby?

The side with more goals wins the game. We performed well, had a good mentality, and had a balanced offense and defense, but we conceded the goal because of our opponent's only counterattack. Maybe we lacked composure a little bit, but the team responded well. It must be admitted that the opponents were well organized and they deserve praise for this game.

Why do Inter Milan always lose in strong dialogues?

We need to do better, but we are currently only 3 points away from the top of the table. We must do more in the confrontation with strong teams. We will analyze everything with the correct attitude to avoid losing the characteristics of the team. Maybe we still need to improve mentally, but compared to the previous game against Naples, I have seen improvement in this game. We just need to better understand and perceive the dangers.

Veterans suffered setbacks in the derby?

I think the team showed a lot of focus, but it wasn't enough. We were eager to break the curse of not doing well enough against strong teams, and we hit the post once and the crossbar once in the game. But we didn't do a good enough job when we lost the ball and couldn't stop that counterattack.

Will Inter Milan make signings during the winter transfer period to strengthen the team's shortcomings?

I understand everyone's curiosity on this issue, but I don't want to talk about transfers at the moment. I had just lost a derby and was worried about the repercussions this might have - of course I didn't want that to happen. I appreciate the roster I have currently and will work hard to find solutions.

You replaced Diouf on the wing at the end of the game. How did you evaluate his performance?

He always tries to cut inside to the center with his left foot. In the 442 formation, he did some good work on the wing. We were happy with how he fit into the team, we needed a player who could get past people and he did that very well.
