Silver: 30 teams have sponsorship agreements worth thousands, and the league cannot fully review every sponsor

Last month, Adam Silver was interviewed by "Front Office Sports" at the Tuned In Summit in New York and talked about the league's sponsor approval process.

Clippers star Leonard is deeply involved in the sponsor controversy. The fraudulent cryptocurrency exchange FTX signed a US$135 million arena naming contract with the Heat but declared bankruptcy in 2022. Silver said: "Such issues were not originally within the scope of our monitoring. After the investigation is completed, we will re-examine the rules for players and owners to invest in companies."

He argued that the league was unable to comprehensively review every sponsor. He said: "Thirty teams have thousands of sponsorship agreements, and these brands are backed by large capital. This was the case in the cryptocurrency field at the time. Although there is a league approval process, it is impossible to conduct in-depth executive background checks on every transaction."
