Torre: I haven t played much time at Barcelona in the past three years, so I have to think about my future
After joining Mallorca from Barcelona this summer, Pablo Torre reviewed his career, the reasons for leaving Barcelona and why he chose Mallorca in an interview with Le Marca.
Why choose Mallorca
From the beginning, from the European Cup, they showed interest in me, and later the head coach also called me. I haven't played much time in Barcelona in the past three years, and I need to feel the trust of the coach. And they gave me this sense of trust, and my family and I think it's a great place and I'm very happy to play here now.
What message did they convey when they talk to you? Did you mention your role in the team? They told me how they view me as a player, how they incorporated me into their system, and what they expected for this season. At the same time, they also introduced me to the projects under construction.
Do you have other important quotes? It is said that Champions League teams like Ajax or Marseille are interested in you, too
Yes, there are indeed some teams interested in me, including those you mentioned. But I ended up choosing Mallorca because it gave me the confidence I needed and I was very happy to be playing here. What kind of message did the head coach send you? He shared with me his philosophy on the game, his goals for the season, his views on my position on the court, and what I need to improve in the game.
How are you adapting on the island?
Very good, although the weather is a bit hot, the temperature is about 34 degrees during training, which is a bit challenging for me. However, the people here are very friendly and I feel everyone's enthusiasm, so overall I am still very happy.
The question about Danny Rodriguez seems to make the locker room a little nervous, how do you think about it? This is a complicated situation where everyone makes mistakes, but in the end the head coach makes a decision and we have to respect it. As a team, we need to be united and continue to work hard to do everything well.
What are your personal and team goals?
I'm here to feel comfortable and enjoy the game and I'm sure we'll have a great season because we have a great team. Although we are all facing strong opponents, we are confident of making progress.
What kind of results do you think Mallorca can achieve?
Now our top priority is to win the game against Espanyol. We all hope to gradually improve our rankings and strive to enter the European war zone, but this is very difficult, but I believe we can work hard for it.
Have you ever thought about staying here for a long time
Of course, the people here gave me a lot of care and I feel very happy. I hope to bring happiness to the fans through continuous progress. As for the future, let's wait and see.
How I feel when I leave Barcelona, I feel good, and I have a deep affection for everyone in the club. From management to every teammate, they treated me very well. Playing football there was a wonderful experience and I learned a lot.
Which former teammate you have kept in touch with the most?
I am in touch with Valde, Penia, Kubasi and others. Especially Kubasi, I only really got to know him this year, and we got along well. In addition, there are Dominguez, Garvey and others, and I keep in touch with them.
When will I decide to leave Barcelona
As time goes by, I gradually realize that I need more opportunities to play. Although Barcelona is one of the best clubs in the world, if you don’t get enough playing time, you must consider your future. I don't regret the experience there because it has allowed me to grow a lot.
You have said that Frick didn't treat you fairly, and even had a meeting, what's going on?
I think I should have a chance to play in some games, but I didn't get what I wanted in the end. Of course, I respect his decision. As a player, sometimes you will inevitably have some selfish thoughts, especially when you don’t have much playing time. I expressed these ideas to him, but eventually accepted the reality.
Do you have any unfulfilled wishes?
No.
Will you want to go back to Barcelona
If one day I can return with more important responsibilities, that is of course my dream. But now I enjoy my life in Mallorca.
What is your personal life? I am actually a very simple person and like to spend time quietly at home. I like to go back to my hometown because there are my best memories there. When I was a child, I always played football at school and played with my friends after school. To me, football is my dream.
