Sandro Wagner: Losing to Bayern means losing. Looking forward to cultivating more new stars for the Bundesliga

Football

. In this game, we tried our best to cause trouble for Bayern, but unfortunately the gap in strength was too large.

Q: I checked the past matches between Augsburg and Bayern, and found that you scored in one of the goals, and that goal was very exciting.

Sandro Wagner: Yes, I remember after that game, we (Bayern) won the Bundesliga title. As a player, that goal is a wonderful memory, but it doesn't make any sense for the current game.

Q: Fans are obviously very satisfied with this game. What about you?

Sandro Wagner: I personally am not particularly satisfied. For me, every game needs to be treated alone, and losing is losing. It would be strange if I say, "I look forward to playing against Bayern more than against St. Pauli." As a coach, I look forward to every Bundesliga game, because being able to do this job is a great honor in itself, and I will not "classify" the game. This is the truth: for the people around me and the media, this game is a hot topic; for my family, it may be the same, because my family is all supporters of Bayern, but for me personally, this game is no different from other games.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in your first Bundesliga coaching season?

Sandro Wagner: There are many. First, we will cooperate with the coaching team and players to see how the goals we set are implemented and how the actual implementation is effective; and how we will deal with them when the team encounters difficulties. I don't be arrogant and think that Augsburg can win easily every weekend. There will definitely be twists and turns during the season, frictions may occur, and times may be unsuccessful. To be honest, I even look forward to these moments. I am not only looking forward to smooth highlights, but also those "hard times". Because I know we can learn a lot from these moments and have a deeper understanding of each player’s personality. So, there are indeed many things to look forward to.

Q: How important is the cultivation of young players to you?

Sandro Wagner: Very important. Clubs like Augsburg have invested a lot of money in youth training, and these investments will one day see results. Now we have two young players on our team that have emerged: Melt Komur and Noah Kei Banks, whose performance in the Bundesliga has proven that they can adapt to this level.

So for me, there are two meanings in cultivating young players: first, as a club employee, this is my responsibility; second, working with young players is also my passion. I like this job very much because young players still have a lot of room for growth and you can help them shape their technology and develop awareness. But the foundation of young players' growth is: a lot of guidance, hard training, and an attitude of being willing to "end hard" in some aspects. This is the cornerstone of the growth of our young players, and I also hope that Augsburg will train more outstanding players who shine in the Bundesliga in the next few years.

Q: In the past, Augsburg has always been known for his "team spirit", especially in home games, where he can always create good results with his willpower and fighting spirit. Are you planning to make some changes based on this?

Sandro Wagner: Yes. If the opponent can "not want to play at home in Augsburg", that's of course good - we will retain this home advantage, and at the same time we will inherit the advantages of the team in the past few years and further improve on this basis. That's our goal. We will wait and see whether it will be realized in the end, but this is indeed the direction of our efforts.
