Sacchi: Optimistic about Roma winning Serie A title, club should try to meet Gasperini s needs

Italy’s meritorious coach Sacchi accepted an exclusive interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, during which he expressed his views on the Serie A championship situation.

Roma leads Serie A: Who could have predicted it at the beginning of the season?

"No, at least I didn't expect it. However, now Roma are leading by two points and showing a beautiful, modern and interesting style of football that combines technique and strength, is well organized and disciplined. Roma are the 'spice' of this season, and in my opinion, they have the potential to go all the way to the end."

Does this mean that Roma can win the Scudetto?

"Why not? I know no one predicted this, but the current standings have said everything. Furthermore, I want to ask: What can stop Roma's dream of winning the championship? They are in a magical moment, and the team just needs to stay focused and not be affected by the atmosphere around them."

But on paper, Inter Milan and Naples have stronger lineups and have a better chance of winning the league title. Do you agree?

"Inter Milan and Naples do have deeper lineups and may be technically superior. But in the long run, the way of playing is the key, and this Roma plays very well. Sometimes I feel like they are like Atalanta. The midfielders press the whole court, the full-backs run actively, the forwards cooperate tacitly, and control the ball well at their feet."

If you were a senior executive of Roma, would you introduce another center in the transfer market?

"If I were the top of the club, I would listen to Gasperini's opinions and try to meet his needs as much as finances allow. This summer, Roma made an important decision: to choose this excellent head coach. They should stick to this path. I have always believed that if the head coach cannot bring the players together and give the team a style, there is no point in spending big money on so-called stars. And Gasperini is a master in this regard."
