Le Parisian: Joao Neves red card in the Club World Cup will not affect his participation in the European Super Cup against Tottenham
Le Parisien reported that Paris Saint-Germain 0-3 in the Club World Cup final, Joao Neves clashed with Cucurella and pulled the opponent's hair and was sent off directly with a red card. The referee made this decision after watching the video replay, and the handling of the incident became complicated under multiple FIFA disciplines. First, according to Article 69 of FIFA's Code of Discipline, regarding the "continuation of the game suspension", C states that the suspension in the club's World Cup will be carried out in the club's next match. Therefore, O'Neves will face a ban on the European Super Cup against Tottenham.
However, there is a detail to note here, and there is another provision in the Club World Cup rules released in October 2024. It is clearly stated in Article 9.6: "Under Article 74 of the FIFA Code of Discipline, any ban caused by red cards or multiple yellow cards will not continue to other events."
Therefore, specific rules of the event will apply to Joo Neves and other players who were sent off by red cards in the last match (such as Gianluca Prestiani of Benfica).
The only situation that could lead to Joao Neves being suspended in subsequent matches is that FIFA initiates a disciplinary investigation. To the best of our knowledge, no such situation has occurred at this time. In addition, the referee team did not submit any reports on the final. Paris Saint-Germain also received no adverse information from UEFA. Therefore, Louis Enrique plans to have Joao Neves compete on August 13.
